Mission-Driven AI Consulting for Mission-Driven Orgs
Welcome to AI for Good Consulting!
I’m Isobel Marston, the founder and consultant behind AI for Good Consulting. While I work as a freelancer, my mission is anything but small: I’m here to help overworked, under-resourced mission-driven organisations harness the power of AI to save time, stretch resources, implement innovative AI systems that revolutionise the way they do good, and focus on what truly matters—their cause and the people they serve. Keep reading to find out more about me and my mission!
My mission
Bringing accessible, inexpensive AI solutions to those who need it most…
In today’s world, AI has become more affordable and accessible than ever, yet countless charities, nonprofits, public sector orgs and purpose-driven businesses are missing out. Many simply aren’t aware of AI’s potential to transform their operations, or they feel priced out by high consulting fees. I founded AI for Good Consulting to bridge this gap—helping purpose-driven organisations access affordable, easy-to-implement AI solutions tailored to their unique needs.
I’m deeply embedded in the recovery and mental health communities in Portsmouth. Seeing the challenges faced by service users and the organisations supporting them—like accessing personalised care, finding resources, and rebuilding lives—was my inspiration to start designing AI solutions. These systems are tailored to help organisations deliver high-value, impactful services to the people they serve.
While recovery and mental health inspired my early work, the possibilities for AI solutions extend far beyond these sectors. I can design systems for all kinds of purpose-driven organisations, from charities to social enterprises. For example, the localised solutions I’ve created in Portsmouth can be implemented anywhere—I simply train the models on different data sets specific to each organisation’s needs, goals, and location.
Some organisations need practical solutions like automations to save time, resources, and money, freeing their teams to build personal connections and deliver their mission. Others benefit from workshops and guidance to empower them to use readily available tools more effectively. My mission is to provide these behind-the-scenes solutions, giving organisations the helping hands they need to amplify their impact.
But the projects that truly excite me are the ones that embody an organisation’s mission. Are you helping people rebuild their lives after addiction, domestic violence, or prison? I want to create an AI system that supports that journey. Do you need to provide 24/7 support but don’t have the resources to staff it? AI can bridge that gap, ensuring no one is left without help when they need it most.
Whether it’s building an AI assistant to guide people to services in Portsmouth, creating cutting-edge tools for service providers to connect and collaborate, or automating processes to save time, I aim to create technology that delivers real value to people’s lives.
With my background in caregiving, support work, and academic work within nonprofits, I understand the pressures of overworked teams and limited budgets. That’s why I’m passionate about making AI an empowering, attainable tool—one that enables organisations to maximise their impact without sacrificing resources, time, or the personal touch.
Who am I?
About Me
I began my career on a different path, aiming to become a University Lecturer in philosophy. I loved the challenge of solving complex problems, and using logic to navigate tough questions. I graduated from the University of Southampton with First Class Honours, receiving awards for the highest grade average and best dissertation. Later, I completed my Master’s in Philosophy (MSt) at the University of Oxford, graduating with a Distinction and earning a finalist award for exceptional performance.
While I cherished the intellectual pursuit of philosophy, I began to feel that academic work was becoming increasingly detached from the real-world problems I wanted to solve. I realised that I wanted my work to have a tangible impact on people’s lives—especially those working in under-resourced organisations dedicated to meaningful causes.
This shift in perspective led me to explore generative AI. I began experimenting with tools, teaching myself through online courses, and completing personal projects. I designed prototype AI systems, such as automating workflows and creating personalised care plans, to see how these tools could deliver value. Through this hands-on approach, I realised that I could implement high-value AI solutions for purpose-driven organisations at a fraction of the normal cost.
With this newfound knowledge, I started helping organisations implement AI solutions. My background in philosophy—critical thinking, logic, and a knack for navigating complex systems—translated perfectly to this new challenge. I also freelanced for Outlier, training large language models (LLMs) for specific use cases, giving me insights on the strengths and weaknesses of current models.
AI Experience and Education
Experience and Projects
I’ve completed a range of AI courses that provided hands-on experience in building impactful solutions:
Generative AI Automation Specialization (Vanderbilt University)
This program emphasised applying generative AI tools like ChatGPT to automate complex tasks and boost productivity. Through hands-on exercises, I learned to craft effective prompts for AI, unlocking creative solutions and streamlining day-to-day operations.Generative AI for Leaders (Vanderbilt University)
This course explored how leaders can integrate AI to amplify their impact. It taught practical skills like using AI to craft agendas, refine proposals, and communicate with precision. I gained insight into applying AI as a confidential thought partner and strategic tool to address challenges, streamline processes, and enhance decision-making.Generative AI: Impact, Considerations, and Ethical Issues (IBM)
A deep dive into the ethical, societal, and economic impacts of generative AI, this course covered topics like data privacy, biases, and responsible use. It helped me understand how to navigate AI’s limitations and design systems that align with ethical principles. No Code MBA
I developed practical systems using AI tools integrated into real-world applications. This included building apps, automating workflows, and using AI in ways that improve efficiency and accessibility.Ethical, Data, and Legal Considerations for Generative AI (Coursera)
This short course addressed the risks of generative AI, from data security to regulatory compliance, providing essential insights into creating responsible AI systems for organisations.
In addition to formal courses, I’ve worked on numerous self-initiated projects. I designed prototype AI systems to create personalised care plans, connect clients with local resources, and automate workflows. These early projects allowed me to align AI capabilities with organisational missions, developing tools that solve real-world problems.
I’ve also created systems for my own consultancy, automating client intake processes and building data analytics tools that enhance how I serve clients. Freelancing as an AI specialist has further expanded my skills, including training LLMs for tailored applications and implementing AI solutions for purpose-driven organisations. Check out my portfolio to get a glimpse of some of the projects I have worked on.
